Inheritance
A Drabble
A drabble is a short work of fiction, that is exactly one hundred words in length.
“Why did you go through with it?”
Carlos sighed.
“We thought it would be worth it.”
“But it wasn’t,” Daisy wiped her tears, “Every day was misery.”
“I’m sorry.”
Carlos looked at the desolation outside the hospital window. Dried corpses littered the heat ravaged streets.
“Mom died, we never had food,” Daisy continued, “And for what?”
The nuclear bomb sirens began to wail again. Watching his daughter cry filled his heart with pity and guilt.
“We wanted to give you a chance to live.”
The powerful flash outside lit up her face.
“Dad,” Daisy sobbed, “It’s been nothing but pain.”

Ouch, that one was hard. My youngest son had a really hard time after his dad died. He was born "dead," and because of that had a lot of difficulty with anger, depression, and learning. He used to shout at me, "I didn't ask to be born, YOU did this!"
Wow, devastasting.
