The Clouded Mind
A Poem
Finished with work
Back home again
Clocked in, clocked out
Clocked down the drain.
Time ticks on,
One tick
Two ticks
My patience is gone
And I’m struggling.
Wandered the store
Bored and tired and
Searching for more
sugar, I just can’t find
Sugar.
A sad puppy dog that’s
Moping and useless,
If it bites at the prod
Take it out back
And shoot it.
They’re offering pills
They say that they’ll help
With the failure
The frustration
The failure
The hell.
The weary mind waits
For you to make up your mind
Too much weight
For the weary
Still can’t find the time.
Tasks upon tasks
For a procrastination king
How many can you put off
Is there one
You’re forgetting?
It’s midnight in the nightmares
Lights flash and
You’re done,
Blind sided by yourself
Drop the red quilt and run.

There’s a real sense of burnout and pressure in this, and you put it into words in such a sharp, relatable way.
Seb, your poem captures the heavy weight of monotony and inner chaos. The ticking clock, the search for “sugar,” and constant frustration reflect a mind trapped in cycles of exhaustion and self-reproach. Lines like being “blindsided by yourself” show the raw struggle with one’s own restless thoughts, making the poem a stark, honest look at the clouded mind.
