The Light
A Drabble
A drabble is a short work of fiction, that is exactly one hundred words in length.
This drabble was inspired by James (HVR) through a delightfully haunting note chain tag game. Go subscribe to his Substack. If you wish to read the prompt you can find it here.
Are my eyes open?
I don’t remember opening them.
But I can’t move.
There is only the light.
It’s been there all along.
I don’t know how long I’ve stared at it, alone, hanging in the darkness.
I can’t move towards it.
I can’t move at all.
There is only me and the light, watching me.
Patiently taunting my paralysis.
I pray that day will come and free me from this nightmare, and yet I’ve been here for what feels like years.
Suspended in nothingness, pitch-black surrounding me.
Am I sinking? Am I floating?
Am I dead?
Is anybody there?
Thank you for reading!

You created a powerful sense of isolation with remarkably few words. The image of the light watching back stayed with me long after I finished reading.
Captured the feeling beautifully!
