Thirst
A Drabble
A drabble is a short work of fiction, that is exactly one hundred words in length.
Hugo peered through the windshield.
The pull had been immense.
He kept staring.
He almost succeeded but it kept calling.
That thing in his chest just wouldn’t stop yearning.
He‘d stood in the store for forever.
Six pack in hand.
Walking back and forth. Indecision fighting alcoholism.
He’d almost put it back, twice.
Bouncing between the shelf and counter. Couldn’t decide.
Now thick rain drummed on his pickup.
The child had come out of nowhere. They always do.
He clicked open his last can.
He couldn’t leave, not like last time.
The blue lights were already in the rearview.
Thank you for reading!
Need another drabble?

Helluva turn at the end! Great job!
Not like last time was a great line
This one was hard to read. It hit a little too close to home for me. Not me personally, and not in the same way, but close enough that I felt it. You said so much in so few words here. Addiction, consequences, guilt… and that awful moment when there’s no taking it back.
